The water will be the first to prioritize. This is very important as this is where the flowerhorn basically survive. If you want to have a successful breeding procedure, you should consider the temperature of the water. A normal temperature for flower horns is 25 degrees Celsius to 30 degrees Celsius. That is about 77 degree Fahrenheit to 86 degree Fahrenheit. The fish is best kept on tropical water temperature with a maximum temperature of 32 degrees Celsius. It is advisable that you maintain this range of temperature on your aquarium to ensure a good habitat for the coming fries and for the parent breeders as well.
A good way to monitor the temperature is to secure an aquarium thermometer. This is an inexpensive tool that you can invest on. Ask prices and brand names or additional information from your nearest local pet store or fish supplier.
How Often You Can Change the Water of Your Flowerhorns
Partially change the water twice a month or every two weeks. We only need common sense to conclude that we need to change the water of the tank when it is needed whichever comes first. You don’t also need to change it very often as it will not good for the flowerhorn to adapt a new environment. It is recommended to change the water from the aquarium partially so that the flowerhorn will never have to adapt to a fresh setting every now and then. Do not put water coming directly from your faucet as it is treated with chlorine and other minerals that are not good for the parents or fries. Changing the environment and the condition of the water will drastically affects the breeding procedure and will cause dramatic change of the behaviors of flowerhorn fish. Even for species that are not intended as breeders, it is not recommended to completely change the water.
According to some studies made by the Philippine Flowerhorn Breeders Society (PFBS) flowerhorn fish can stay alive in water with a neutral pH rate of 6-8. Likewise, it is recommended that the pH is kept at lower rate when keeping the fries. Changing the water once in every two weeks is the best way to have a stable pH level.
It is not difficult to breed flowerhorn fish. You only need to follow a breeding technique that will fit your situation as breeder and a pet lover.
